And… we’re back!
After more almost three years, Out of Theaters returns, with your hosts, Billy Kulpa and Will Pfeifer once again at the mics.
In this epic-length episode, we discuss (among many, many other things) the Secret Origin of the Billy-Will Team, how “Eating Raoul” spoils its own ending, the show’s brand-new theme song, how many movies James Dean made, when the Marvel movies stopped caring about physics, the Rule of Fat Russell Crowe and — most pertinently — why the hell the podcast hasn’t been heard from since December 2016.
We also talk about Will’s favorite movies out of the 305 (!) he’s watched since 2016, including the wildest once he’s seen in a theater (hint: a baby gets eaten). Billy switches to the small screen to talk about “Mad Men” and “Black Mirror” (which leads to discussion of that show’s notorious first episode), and both guys talk (a lot) about Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and why the violence at the end of that movie feels a lot different than, say, “John Wick.”
Finally, we open the Out of Theaters mailbag and answer listener questions covering everything from whether or not “Solo” is a terrible movie to why physical media is superior to streaming (or vice versa, depending on who’s speaking).
It’s both a suitably shambling summary of what Out of Theaters was, and the perfect introduction if you’ve never heard an episode. Next time, we’ll be back to the patented Out of Theaters single-movie format, but for this episode, and this episode only, we just relax, sit back and talk movies.
